Curriculum
At Calvary Chapel Junior High we are committed to giving your child a comprehensive curriculum taught from a Christ-centered perspective.

Curriculum

English 7 – Literary elements, vocabulary, plot, and character development will be studied through a Bob Jones literature anthology. In the Bob Jones Grammar book, we will cover the solid foundation of grammar rules while also stressing of the implementation of those rules. Spelling and vocabulary study will be out of Abeka books. Solid writing practices will be addressed through the Jane Shaffer writing program. Students that earn an A in both semesters will be eligible to take a foreign language in 8th grade.

English 8 – Literary elements, character development, and extensive examination of plot and meaning will be covered with the Bob Jones literature anthology. Spelling and vocabulary will be covered through Abeka. The grammar and language mechanics will be studied daily in the Bob Jones Grammar text. Writing skills will be honed with the use of the Jane Shaffer writing system. As a high school prerequisite for Spanish I, students must earn a B for both semesters in this class.
 
History 7- In this course the students will study from Bob Jones’ World Studies. There is a special emphasis on the Renaissance and many other world cultures.
 
History 8- United States history is covered using Bob Jones’ American Republic, with a special emphasis on the Constitution and the study of government.
 
Science 7- The focus of this course is life science from Bob Jones Press. A great emphasis is placed on the Biblical viewpoint of creation and God’s intricate blueprints for life from the cell to more complex organisms. The students will dissect organisms in the study of basic systems and God’s wonderful designs.
 
Science 8- This course will focus on earth science using Bob Jones textbook. The celestial sphere, atmosphere, lithosphere, and hydrosphere are looked at in detail. Students will also examine geology, earth structure, and creation vs evolutionary theory.
 
Pre-Algebra - The text Mathematics: Course 1 is utilized for this course. It will include components such as fractions, decimals, percentages. There is a special emphasis on algebraic operations.
 
Algebra- Mathematics: Course 2 will be used in this course. Eighth graders who have completed Pre-Algebra and seventh graders on track to take Algebra 1 as eighth graders will take this course. Seventh graders will qualify through sixth grade scores and a standard entry exam. There is special emphasis on algebra and applied algebraic formulas.
 
Algebra 1- For those eighth graders on track to take geometry as freshmen, this course is a challenging study dealing with algebra, algebraic applications, and more advanced formulas using Algebra. Success in Pre-algebra is a prerequisite for this course.
 
Bible 7- This course is an overview of the Old Testament. Students will go through key Old Testament passages and character studies dealing with personal applications, devotional time, and basic doctrines of the faith as they appear through the context of Scripture. They will have the opportunity to serve in some capacity locally putting their faith in action.
 
Bible 8- In this course, students will go through the New Testament from Acts to
Revelation. Emphasis will be placed on verse by verse study, Biblical word studies, key Christian theology, and personal accountability for their faith. Service projects will round out their class work.
